A sea accessible for all in Skiathos
Supported By: Seatracs for disabled
The illustrious backdrop to 2008 hit musical movie Mamma Mia, Skiathos dazzles with natural beauty and rustic Greek allure. And now the island is making waves for another reason, championing social responsibility for people with disabilities.
The laid-back island, famous for its beaches and calm waters, has made sure every local and visitor can enjoy its clear turquoise waters, by installing Seatracs on four of its beaches: Koukounaries, Agia Paraskevi, Agia Eleni and Megali Ammos. The innovative ramps are designed for people with mobility issues, allowing them to enter the sea independently.
The Seatracs are movable meaning they can be removed at the end of the summer season and leave no lasting mark on the beaches. And that’s not all, the clever ramps generate their own energy with an in-built solar panel soaking up the sun’s rays.
There are over 1 billion people with disabilities in the world and Skiathos is leading the way in ensuring equal access for visitors. Here’s to that.
