Evia’s new trees

Supported By: Evia

Trees, trees, marvellous trees.

A place where Athenians holiday for a big old dose of nature, Evia is a place of diverse landscapes. Rolling mountains, thermal springs, gushing rivers and aromatic pine forests, fade into beautiful golden beaches and sparkling blue waters.

Greece’s second largest island is welcoming 4,000 new leafy friends to replace trees lost in forest fires last summer. Now the new trees are firmly establishing their roots in the rich soil and bringing the island’s biodiversity back once again.

Everyone on the island is getting stuck in – farmers, locals, school students and the fire service have dug deep planting pine, cypress and carob. It turned out broadleaf oak best survived the blaze, proving the species’ resilience for future fires.
