Go nuts for a traditional Greek Breakfast in Aegina
Guests go nuts for a delicious and nutritious Greek Breakfast to fuel up before a day of sightseeing on Aegina, visiting sights from the famous ancient Aphaia Temple to the charming historic houses of the old town.
Easy-to-access as the closest island to Athens, the small island of Aegina is famous for its pistachios, and thanks to gentle mountains, fertile farmland and sun-baked weather, it’s the perfect place for the little green nuts to thrive.
What might you find on your breakfast plate here? Produced by a family-run business that began in the 1950s, AIGINA pistachio nuts are grown, harvested, and roasted on the island by the third generation of the Tzitzis family. The business began when Yannis Tzitzis started to sell nuts from his own farm and over the years it has grown and now the family work with many farmers on the island to create a beautiful product. So renowned are the pistachios, it has been registered as a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) product by the Greek Organization for the Certification of Agricultural Products – AGROCERT.
Visitors can get a taste of the island’s famous flavourful nuts as part of a delicious breakfast alongside other Greek staples such as bread, olive oil, olives, yoghurt, honey and fresh fruit.
Created by the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, the country-wide Greek Breakfast initiative includes 1448 hotels across Greece and aims to connect visitors with local products as part of a tasty tour, while learning all about Greece’s gastronomic heritage. So, tuck into your tasty breakfast and go nuts for a healthy Mediterranean start to the day! Visit Greek Breakfast to see what else is on the menu.
