Keeping it fresh and tasty in Halkidiki with Ikos and Sani
Supported By: Ikos Resorts
Tucked amongst the emerald, green forests and golden bays of the spectacular Halkidiki region in northern Greece, you’ll find Ikos Oceania, Ikos Olivia and Sani Resort, three splendid hotels that champion local culture, tradition and gastronomy.
At Ikos local produce is paramount, with 56% of products used picked and purchased from local farms, cooperatives and small businesses. The most innovative action is the hotels’ partnerships with local restaurants. The all-inclusive resorts have an array of Michelin-star chef curated restaurants on site, but also know that is essential to support nearby restaurants and give guests a taste of cuisine outside of the hotels. Here enters Infinite Lifestyle, a local dining concept where guests can immerse themselves in the local food scene, choosing to dine out at nearby restaurants during their stay. To further support local eateries Ikos gives training and support to the chefs and restaurateurs, working collaboratively to create a positive, sustainable culinary community in the area. Bravo!
Find out more: Enrichment also happens away from the dining table. Both Ikos Oceania and Ikos Olivia give guests a free visit to a nearby museum to culturally enrich their stay at no extra cost. Guests can check out one of the largest museums in Greece, The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, climb the historical White Tower and the Museum of Byzantine Culture, or head to the Gerovasileiou Vineyards & Wine Museum to taste the region’s legendary Ktima Gerovassiliou wines.
Sani Resort, which became Greece’s first certified carbon neutral resort in 2020, is also taking serious strides in the sustainability sphere. The hotel runs on 100% renewable electricity and plans to have zero waste and plastic by 2024. The luxury resort is currently trialling a zero-waste kitchen at their Tomata restaurant, using AI to reduce food surplus, and has welcomed a new type of guest…bees! Sani has created the largest bee spot in the country, giving shelter to pollinators who are crucial to the local ecosystem. We’re buzzing to meet them.
