Naxos puts the eco in economy

Supported By: Naxos

In Naxos you’ll find powdery, golden beaches, tranquil villages where locals cool off under plane trees sipping citron liqueur and a wild coast where fluorescent kitesurfs speckle the cornflower blue sky. The energy here is all good vibes. And now the island is upping the ante on another type of energy. Naxos and the Small Cyclades are taking a holistic approach to climate change by making their buildings more energy efficient.

The islands have partnered with The Ecosystemic Transition Unit (ETU) which acts as a roadmap for rural places and islands to make the leap to green energy.

They are now using the wind and sun for energy, resources that are not only more sustainable but also boost the economy. The initiative is based on social innovation to empower the residents to transform the island for everyone’s benefit, the planet included!

Ancient Greek historian Herodotus described Naxos as ‘the happiest of islands’…and it looks like it is set to become one of the world’s most sustainable too.
