Read all about the Home of Shedia in Athens
Stop the press! Hidden inside a heritage building in one of Athen’s most picturesque corners is the Home of Shedia, a hub for social change. Aiming to empower those who have experienced extreme poverty, the building is home to the street newspaper Shedia.
The Home of Shedia was established as a hub to provide solutions to social problems, while also becoming a destination for visitors to get a taste of Athen’s vibrant nightlife and culture.
Look up when you walk in the door and you’ll see 43 hanging paper lampshades in the shape of little houses, made from past unsold issues of Shedia street paper. Each represents a person who, through their participation in Shedia projects, managed to move from experiencing homelessness to having their very own home.
Browse the Shediart gift shop and showroom area and stop by the café-bar-restaurant where you’ll find delicious food and cocktails, and a fun atmosphere with music and merriment.
Sheida is supported by G Adventures, who bring visitors here on trips to Athens, and through Planeterra they also support Wise Greece, a non-profit social enterprise that supports small farmers and producers across Greece and uses the profits to purchase food for people in need. Good news indeed!
