Delve into dolphin conservation on Alonissos

Supported By: Responsible Travel

The queen bee of the oceans, dolphins are universally loved the world over for their shiny skin, friendly faces and lively nature, and in Alonissos it is no exception, where four dolphin species swim and play in the Aegean waters. Travellers can now get stuck in protecting the friendly cetaceans with Responsible Travel’s holiday dedicated to dolphin conservation off the island.

As part of a small group of like-minded new pals, travellers will help researchers collect data on the dolphins, learning dorsal fin photography and GPS-recording and embarking on daily boat trips with a marine biologist to spot pods and once found, collect data on their behaviour and numbers. After a morning of valuable work, tuck into a delicious mezze lunch on board with time to swim, snorkel and explore the marine park. As the evening draws in, field biologists deliver talks on marine research, dolphin behaviour and environmental issues in the region.

Travellers stay in self-catering apartments in Patitiri, a lovely, lively port town perched in a calm bay in southern Alonnisos, the perfect place while away free time.
